In addition to Ubuntu 26.10 itself delivering some nice performance gains on Ubuntu 26.10 for AMD EPYC servers and other hardware, the optional and currently-unofficial amd64v3 package archive also provides additional performance uplift. Here is a look quantifying the performance impact of amd64v3 packages on AMD EPYC 9005 series servers.
Ubuntu 26.10 continues to offer an amd64v3 archive for its packages built with the x86_64-v3 micro-architecture feature level. Ubuntu has even begun spinning amd64v3 ISOs for easier installation. But Canonical has not yet officially endorsed the amd64v3 packages as an alternative to generic amd64 binaries.
My prior benchmarks of Ubuntu 26.10 amd64v3 have shown nice performance benefits on lower-cost hardware as well as higher-end desktops . For those curious about the amd64v3 impact on servers, I ran some benchmarks recently of the near-final Ubuntu 26.10 using the default amd64 packages and then the same tests on the same hardware using the amd64v3 packages.
The Gigabyte MZ33-AR1 with AMD EPYC 9555P 64-core processor was used for this round of amd64 vs. amd64v3 performance benchmarking.
