Posted on October 9, 2026 by Eman Omar | Golden Kubestronaut When I became a Golden Kubestronaut , I wanted to celebrate the achievement in a way that felt lasting. Like most technical achievements, certifications usually live digitally. You receive the badge, update your profile, and eventually move on to the next challenge. This milestone felt different, and my partner, David, suggested turning the Golden Kubestronaut design into an actual gold necklace. The idea immediately felt meaningful to me for another reason. Gold has held a special place in Egyptian history for thousands of years.
In ancient Egypt, its enduring nature made it closely associated with permanence and eternity. I loved the idea of using that same symbolism to preserve a very modern achievement. Becoming a Golden Kubestronaut wasn't originally a goal I had set for myself. As an engineer working with Kubernetes, Linux, security, DevOps, and cloud native technologies, I've always enjoyed challenging myself and continuing to learn. Becoming a Kubestronaut was already an achievement I was very proud of, and I wasn't necessarily planning to take it further. David was the person who encouraged me to go for Golden Kubestronaut.
Without that encouragement, I genuinely don't know that I would have pursued it. Once I committed to the goal, it took a lot of studying, hands-on practice, troubleshooting, and persistence. Not everything worked the first time, and not every exam went the way I wanted. But those challenges became part of what made reaching the goal so rewarding. Turning the Golden Kubestronaut design into a real piece of gold jewelry became a way to immortalize that moment. Technology changes incredibly quickly. The tools we use today will evolve, and years from now my work may look very different.
The necklace gives me something permanent from a journey built around technology that is constantly changing. When I look at it, I don't just see the Golden Kubestronaut logo. I see the work that went into earning it, the challenges along the way, and the encouragement that pushed me to pursue a goal I might not otherwise have attempted. It also reminds me that accomplishments are rarely achieved entirely alone. Sometimes having someone who believes you is what gives you the confidence to start pursuing a goal. As a woman in engineering, I'm proud of this milestone and hope my experience enc
